"Sonata in E Minor" (op. 38) by Brahms has been transcribed for Bb Bass Clarinet and Piano by Dr. William O’Neil. This is a major recital work of 3 challenging movements. Works of this nature for Bass clarinet are rare. The Brahms Sonata, originally for cello, is a stunningly wonderful work by one of the real giants of music. I had already arranged two other works for bass clarinet solo from the trombone repertoire, and when I heard the Brahms performed, it seemed to call to me. Being the husband/daddy of string players, my family is mightily offended that I’ve done it, but it really works well, and is certainly one of the finest solos in the bass clarinet repertoire.
